Did you know? - Halloween

Hi everyone!

Today, I've decided - in honor of the most awesome holiday tomorrow - to make a special post.

We all know what day it is tomorrow though, don't we?

Of course we do.

It's that time of the year, where we all wear our costumes ( most of us ), go from door to door and annoy neighbors into giving us their stashes of candy and coins. ( unless they want to end up glued on a chair.)

However, do we really know what this holiday is all about?? Has Halloween always been the holiday we know today, or is there a dark mysterious origin few only know about?

To answer this, I've been searching the deep web....

It was deep.

And dark.

But I made it.

So, here is what Halloween actually used to be about - a short version of a very long explanation I found.

Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

To be honest, I didn't know this myself until I learned about it in a class I'm currently taking at university. It's called British Culture and Civilization and learning about the people who used to inhabit Britain and are inhabiting it today is a part of it.

Since we had to go through that, it meant learning about the Celts too. They're a part of many people who've inhabited the British mainland and they along with the other types of people who've inhabited the UK later on are the roots of today's inhabitants - their ancestors.

There are many other things connected to Halloween such as.....

THE SUPERSTITIONS

"Halloween has always been a holiday filled with mystery, magic and superstition. It began as a Celtic end-of-summer festival during which people felt especially close to deceased relatives and friends. For these friendly spirits, they set places at the dinner table, left treats on doorsteps and along the side of the road and lit candles to help loved ones find their way back to the spirit world. Today’s Halloween ghosts are often depicted as more fearsome and malevolent, and our customs and superstitions are scarier too. We avoid crossing paths with black cats, afraid that they might bring us bad luck. This idea has its roots in the Middle Ages  when many people believed that witches avoided detection by turning themselves into cats. We try not to walk under ladders for the same reason. This superstition may have come from the ancient Egyptians, who believed that triangles were sacred; it also may have something to do with the fact that walking under a leaning ladder tends to be fairly unsafe. And around Halloween, especially, we try to avoid breaking mirrors, stepping on cracks in the road or spilling salt.
But what about the Halloween traditions and beliefs that today’s trick-or-treaters have forgotten all about? Many of these obsolete rituals focused on the future instead of the past and the living instead of the dead. In particular, many had to do with helping young women identify their future husbands and reassuring them that they would someday—with luck, by next Halloween—be married. In 18th-century Ireland, a matchmaking cook might bury a ring in her mashed potatoes on Halloween night, hoping to bring true love to the diner who found it. In Scotland, fortune-tellers recommended that an eligible young woman name a hazelnut for each of her suitors and then toss the nuts into the fireplace. The nut that burned to ashes rather than popping or exploding, the story went, represented the girl’s future husband. (In some versions of this legend, confusingly, the opposite was true: The nut that burned away symbolized a love that would not last.) Another tale had it that if a young woman ate a sugary concoction made out of walnuts, hazelnuts and nutmeg before bed on Halloween night she would dream about her future husband. Young women tossed apple-peels over their shoulders, hoping that the peels would fall on the floor in the shape of their future husbands’ initials; tried to learn about their futures by peering at egg yolks floating in a bowl of water; and stood in front of mirrors in darkened rooms, holding candles and looking over their shoulders for their husbands’ faces. Other rituals were more competitive. At some Halloween parties, the first guest to find a burr on a chestnut-hunt would be the first to marry; at others, the first successful apple-bobber would be the first down the aisle.
Of course, whether we’re asking for romantic advice or trying to avoid seven years of bad luck, each one of these Halloween superstitions relies on the good will of the very same “spirits” whose presence the early Celts felt so keenly."

So you see - Halloween used to be a big deal back centuries ago and today it's just providing us the fun of a lifetime with games and other activities and treats available only once a year every year.

Come on then, what are you waiting for? Go out there, turn those stores upside down, find your costume and face your neighbors head-on for treats or try your luck at making some tricks.

In any case, gather your friends and have some real fangrific fun!

p.s. Don't get a sugar rush! Watch your sugar level - even though it tastes good it might cause some minor difficulties later.

My closet in autumn

Hey guys, how's it going?

Today, I kinda got inspired to do a fashion - related post. So, basically I took over Stella's job for a day ( though not entirely ) and decided to share with you tips for autumn-wear and of course a few of my favorite outfits I have on every autumn!

So, let's begin. Before I do this however I do have a thought to share with you. At first I had an idea to make a Pixie Closet of some sorts - but then I realized I could do something even better. What if I made a pixie magazine?

Now, I know what you all are going to say - 'The Pixie Press already exists' -

Well, I know this and I know the kind of things they post about. I was thinking that perhaps I can do something unique - a monthly issue of the magazine and each would have a cover. This is still just a thought - If I decide to do it I'll let you all know.

And now - let's finally begin:

As you can see my style varies according to the weather. This past week has been wet - which meant I had to pay special attention to foot-wear and my wings.

That's why when I took a stroll the other day I made sure to take an umbrella with me - made out of perfect flower pedals who don't get soaked and dry out easily.

Do you like it? I sure do! That's my rainy day outfit. You can notice I wear rubber boots - trust me when there are puddles they're your best friends.

And of course, the message of the day is - Keep your wings dry!!

Now, before I leave you to enjoy your Friday I'd like to inform you that the story I've been working on has one chapter completed and is most likely going to be posted over on this blog's Wattpad for the extended weekend ( it's a holiday irl in my country so c: ).

Well, that was it - I hope you enjoyed my post and I'll see you all very soon!

Keep yourself safe and dry!

News regarding this blog

Hey everyone!!

I'd like to start this post off with an apology to every single reader no matter If you've been active or not for not updating sooner.

I honestly ( until today ) had no idea what to post about, since there's not much going on at FairyABC & the Pixie Blogging Community.

The other bloggers have also been busy with their own real lives, even though they're always around just like me.

Now, I'd like to start off with the news.

First off, I'd like to inform you that the blog has finally been redecorated to look a little more Halloween-ey than before and I hope you like it.

Secondly, I've been giving this following thing so much thought and I've decided the following:

You all know that behind the five fairies on this blog is always one person, but because I like using them all you see more than one 'writer' post almost always.

However, after thinking it through I've decided that only one of these five fairies should be signing off the posts from now on - that is I decided that from this day forward Juniper is our News Pixie.
She'll be in charge of posting news and keeping you informed.

As for the other four, well they already have their jobs.

Stella is stuck with her Fashion Spotlight, Harmony's developing new pictures for her Camera Roll tab and Amber's going to be in charge of putting up stories on Wattpad since well - Animal talents have that writing talent in them as well. Of course, with this being said, it won't be only Amber who'll be in the stories, but she'll be 'in charge' of the Wattpad associated with this  blog.

Regarding the Wattpad ( whose link is on the home page as a button ), I'd also like to inform you If you haven't already seen that all the new stories are going straight there from now on.

I'll inform you when they get posted so you can head over there and take a look and there's always gonna be a cover  picture - link to it within the post.

Now, another heads up from me.

I've been working on a plan as to what this Wattpad I mentioned before should include aside from Pixie Hollow - related stories and I've come to realize that not only these stories could be added there. I've been working on some other things which are also magic-related and are a part of the  fantasy genre just like our Pixie Hollow so I'll add those stories there as well - that way you'll always have different things to read not just Pixie Hollow stories.

I am really sorry that this post turned out to be 29437837549 miles long but I really needed to explain to you guys how things are gonna go on from now.

Also, I hope that you didn't think I'd leave you all again...Because let's face it, I thought of leaving two years ago and look at me today - back here at the very place I wanted to leave.

Lastly ( this is the part where you say 'amen sister'  ) keep coming back because there's going to be a new story available - well the first chapter of it anyways and I really think it's going to be worth your time!

Still working on a title for it, but I think it's going to be up one of these days.

Meanwhile, If I post something else over on Wattpad - together with the post on this Pixie Hollow story I've been working on I'll let you know about the others as well.

And now, it was so nice to talk to you all and I hope you had fun reading and learning of all the new things coming your way!

Fly with you all later,

The Kimono Squad Day

Hey guys, June here yet again!

I know, you're beginning to wonder what's happened to the others - well.... I don't know but I took over the blog for a while until someone from them has something to say xD

Anyways, today turned out to be a good day over on FairyABC because ... we made a Kimono Squad Day!

We were goofing off as per usual and decided to do it in the newest part of the Hollow - The Moon Festival meadow created by the Chinese co-creator of the game. Just as we were all enjoying ourselves a fairy flew in ( River if I'm not mistaken - If I am sorry o.o ) saying she made a kimono.
Then we all ran from store to store to create our own!

Now we're just calling each other Kimono Squad and let me tell you everyone looks amazing now.

Here's how I look like:

Also, take a look at our squad:

We're still on - well most of us anyways and are currently in Palm Tree Cove.

I still don't know how this happened to be honest, but it's so much fun and I love being a part of a different culture as a fairy.

I think I did a great job with the kimono I'm wearing too!

Anyways, I also wanted to dedicate this post to all my fellow Asian players as well as the Asian creator.

I wanted to say how beautiful and special your culture and world are. Your side of the planet is truly unique and I'd love to see it one day with my own eyes.

And now, I'd like to ask you dear readers - what is your favorite part of the Asian culture? Why do you like or perhaps why don't you like it so much?

Answer in the comments below!

Why I like this culture you ask? Well -

LIKE BECAUSE:

1. Amazing bands, traditional music & instruments.

2. Amazing clothes & unique ones as well

3. Holidays I wish we celebrated too because they're so good and the traditions while they're on are also awesome!

4. The languages which are challenging are also beautiful and powerful. I love Chinese, studied it as well and I still wanna keep improving.

5. Amazing landscape, monuments and cities. I have got to visit some in the future ( when I make my own money that is cx )

6. The food - everything's made of rise or includes rise as a side dish. Some street food seems weird and probably has a bad taste, but I do believe it's at least healthy and from what I've seen street food there compared to the American and European ones is like a 1000 times healthier.

~ I HAVE NO DISLIKES WHATSOEVER ~

Hope you liked my little dedication to the East side of the planet!

Lots of love and good night/day/morning!

Happy autumn everyone!

Hey everyone - it's been a while!

Did you think I abandoned you by any chance?

Nah...I've just been busy with other things and didn't really have time to post - I've been around other pixies' blogs though by commenting and participating in events such as the Pixie Hollow Games 2016.

Okay so as you've all noticed by now the font of the posts' text has changed. I decided it had to be different from the title font and this one was spot-on.

Now, the other thing I'd like to remind everyone of is that tonight will be the Animal Masquerade Ball night over on Worlize.

I don't know when aka what time though because the hostess failed to mention it in her post for the date change. I suppose you should keep checking to see if anyone's on and you'll know If it's started or not.

And....

I also wanted to dedicate this post to the recent change of seasons from summer to autumn! Yeah, I know some ( if not most ) of you hate autumn because for some school starts then but hey think of it as the season where one of the most amazing changes of nature occurs. Leaves change from green to amazing color nuances of red, orange, yellow and purple. It's truly magical especially if you have a home with a view of a nearby hill or mountain.

I think this last picture shows how magical autumn truly is.

As for me - I like autumn not just because of the colors it brings with it, but also because of two special holidays my friends celebrate ( unfortunately where I'm from we don't celebrate them) - Thanksgiving Day and Halloween.

Speaking of Halloween - I love the treats kids get during that festivity, and I love how kids get so creative just for that special occasion with their various costumes and sometimes I wish we had it here too - but where I'm from we have another holiday as you all do where we again wear masks and that's April Fools Day.

That's kind of like Halloween except the masks aren't all spooky. You still can dress yourself like a mummy or a reaper but it's not all like that.

It's a fun holiday where people play pranks on each other - but we gather in masks and we just have fun outside.

Anyhow, I made a banner for this special occasion which is located on the top of this post.

I want to wish you all a happy and successful school year, and a very magical autumn.

Also, If you should get the chance, plant some sleepy flower bulbs - I read this from Marigold's Musings and she makes a good point it's the best time to plant some specific flowers that will grow and evolve during the other seasons. Look around the wide web for ideas on what to plant. I don't even know If I'll do it personally, but I'd like to even though I have no garden I still have a balcony.

So, I'm going to go now and remember - autumn is magical no matter what!

Till next time,

TPD is now on Facebook!

Hey guys,

Exciting news from June today!

I flew by to inform you that from now on this blog has an official Facebook page!!

It's exciting isn't it?? I'm eeking myself still.

I was thinking about it for a long while, and I just now figured out how to sync the Wordpress blog to the Facebook page so I decided to give it a go.

The page is The Pixie Diaries - same as the blog itself. You can easily keep updated from there too! Whenever there's a new post it'll automatically come over there from Wordpress!

I hope you'll give it a like!

Also a little tip - the learn more button which is blue and rectangular right under the page's banner is actually a link to the blog! Click it to see the blog and read news from there - or click the Facebook posts and they'll redirect you to the blog posts too.

Well, that's all for now and I'll be adding a button for it on the homepage! Stay around for that!

Lots of love,

FairyABC Update #2!

Hey guys, Juniper here!

So as you all already heard FairyABC - known to us all as Pixie Hollow is now updated!

That's right, and here's a list of the things you'll see below - but before we head to that I want to explain something shortly because I'm gonna make a video on it and post it within this post in a bit. I already made a video preview of the update which needs to be edited - so I'll leave two blank spots over here until they're done and once they are the links which turn into players will be provided down below at the end of this post.

Okay so, here's what you need to know before anything else I mention.

There is a whole new game-play system now that requires you to use real emails in order to complete your signup process.

Here's why: When you sign up you're asked for your email and to type a code for security reasons and then when you click to continue the site known as FairyABC Forum sends you a confirmation link via the email.

That's right...smart move there FABC crew! Now there won't be tons of accounts because we can't use fake emails anymore.

However, the old way still exists, but without the update. So, in order to join us all in the new and improved Pixie Hollow you'll need to recreate your account & fairy/sparrowman one last time - that's also right after this if any future changes should happen your accounts aka fairies/sparrowmen WILL NOT be deleted as it was till now, thanks to this new playing system I mentioned.

I have one more fairy - Jade the frost talent that needs to be created. So, I will use that opportunity to show you how to make your account and for now I'm just going to provide you with the link to the new page:

There you can sign up easily - but still I'll do a short clip so you don't get lost and/or confused.

Let's move on then shall we?

As I mentioned above these are the things that have come back so far:

1. The two new shops

We all knew there were two new shops coming our way but we only knew one's name for certain - The Queen's Boutique.

Well, the other one's Gale's Outfitters!

Now, in the boutique you can't mix & match, there's only pre-made aka pre-matched outfits available, but they're combinations of everything that you can find over in Gale's Outfitters.

Summit Style basically became the Basics Shop from a long time ago in the original Pixie Hollow, so now the 'modern & new' clothes shop is Gale's. And yes, the admins are aware that it's in the wrong meadow but who even cares, it's back that's what matters the most!

2. Two surprise additions

There was no word from anyone that this was going to happen as the admins and Wind themselves weren't sure yet - or it might've been just so they could use the element of surprise.
If it was the second case then:

Anyhow, the first surprise was the return of the -drum rolls-  > Ballroom!

Now, before you ask why I'm actually outside and not inside - because I'm showing it to you via the video and I don't wanna spoil that.

And another thing, you need to click the symbols of the places now so you enter. For leaving them - where there are exit signs try the pointing arrow and if that doesn't work click the name of the meadow it leads to.

The other surprise that made a comeback is the Tearoom!

I also didn't take a picture of the inside of it because again it's in the video. ( which I'll get back to as soon as I'm done with this post. 😆 )

Furthermore, I'd like to inform you that the mini games known as Crazy Cakes & Two for Tea have not returned. But hey, better something than nothing right?

3. Meadow decor

As well as getting new places to hang out at, we got cool new meadow looks! The meadows now match autumn weather and looks and also they have Animal Masquerade ( aka Halloween ) decor everywhere.

Here, take a look at some of the decor!

Neat isn't it?

What's more, there are new meadows who might come our way.

When I talked with Wind a while back he told me that they've been working on something and the recent removal of Frosty Forest makes me personally think that it has something to do with making a Winter Forest - like meadow aka realm.

Now imagine if this happens, it'd be so cool!

Well, there you go, we've reached the end of this post.

But, don't worry you're yet to see my videos on this update aka: the preview video and the sign-up explanation video.

Here you'll find them as they become available over on Youtube via TheMix - my channel.

* Pixie Hollow - New Update Preview Clip!

* Sign-up for the new version of FairyABC - Clip!

_____________________________________________________________

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!

I recently found myself unable to access the game so I asked the nice admins from the FairyABC Facebook page about it and one of them told me that the 'main server not available' problem is actually not a problem at all.

Turns out, the server is refreshing itself every half an hour ( or 45 minutes tops ) and then it restarts and comes back online again - every single day. I find this a good thing though so If you run into that just wait it out - do something else in the meantime 😉

_____________________________________________________________

Hope you're having a blast!

Till next time,
